Black Forest is just south of the Palmer Divide which is an elevated peninsula that juts eastward from the Front Range and divides the drainage of the Platte and Arkansas Rivers. While abounding in wildlife—mule deer, coyote, cottontail rabbits, porcupines, ground squirrels and red fox—all commonly seen, there are also some black bear, mountain lion and elk. Black Forest is served by three school districts: Academy District 20 at www.asd20.org, Falcon District 49 at www.d49.org, and Lewis-Palmer District 38 at www.lewispalmer.org. All of these schools place a high priority on education as the key to success and strive to provide the best possible learning environments for their students. For higher education, the Air Force Academy, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Colorado College, Regis University, Pikes Peak Community College and many commuter colleges are all within a reasonable drive.
