Recreational opportunities abound in this region with Marshall-Sprague Park and Woodmen Valley Park containing playgrounds, play fields, picnicking sites and lighted tennis courts. But perhaps the biggest playground of all is the Blodgett Peak Open Space, one of the most accessible mountains in the region.

The Blodgett Peak Open Space has 167 acres of open space, trails and wildlife habitat. Once part of Blodgett Ranch, this open space is home to a variety of animals and vegetation. Home to peregrine falcons who hunt by swooping down in a spectacular dive from high above. Virtually exterminated from eastern North America by pesticides in the middle of the 20th Century, restoration efforts have made them a regular, if still uncommon site in many large cities. Once placed on the endangered species list, these birds fly freely throughout the Blodgett Peak Open Space. Also unique to the area is its geological rock formations poking out from the terrain. The trail itself is an excellent workout, climbing 2,500 feet in a little over two miles.

St. Francis Retreat Center sits amidst Peregrine as a tranquil neighbor. With the theme of “Come and be renewed in body, mind and spirit,” St. Francis provides a quiet, reflective atmosphere for people of all faiths. The beauty of the premises along with its carefully sculpted stonework, provides panoramic views as well as a habitat for wildlife. A herd of deer has taken up residency here in this protected environment. Open to the public for retreats or group meetings, St. Francis offers a special time of renewal for the weary.

An easy and pleasant drive through Woodmen Valley makes access to Interstate 25 a brief journey.  All the amenities of urban life in Colorado Springs is but a short drive away. The Pine Creek Golf Course maintains a first-class clubhouse, restaurant, pro shop, putting and chipping greens, and an elevated target-oriented driving range with fabulous views of Pikes Peak and the Front Range.

Education needs are served by District 20. Woodmen Roberts Elementary, Eagleview Middle School serve the younger grades while Air Academy High School located on the southern grounds of the Air Force Academy offers a comprehensive four-year high school for grades 9-12.
